Some tips for using these audios:

  • Start with the Understanding Mindfulness audios to learn about mindfulness.
  • These short practice exercises are to help train your brain to be more mindful when engaged in daily activities.
  • The audio format is just for convenience to help learn the material. You can also read the transcript. When you practice, however, you should engage in the behavior mindfully without listening to the audio.
  • The best way to train your brain to be more mindful is to practice in short sessions throughout the day while engaged in your normal activities.
  • The descriptions are an artificial way to help you get started. Eventually, the practice of mindfulness is being aware of what is described without using an inner verbal description.
  • Mindfulness can be done throughout the day in the many different activities of the day. This exercise is to focus fully on your first activities of the day such as getting dressed.
  • This exercise is particularly helpful in learning to create a trigger for being more mindful in daily activities. By practicing mindfulness with one of your first activities of the day, it can help you remember to creat mindfulness throughout the day.

Transcript of Audio: Getting Dressed

As you get dressed notice the full experience. Notice the feel of your clothes as you select what to wear. Notice the texture and the weight of the clothes. What do you hear as the clothes move against one another? Select an item to put on. Notice your muscles move as you put on the item. Notice what it feels like against your skin. As you continue to dress notice the movements you make and how your muscle movements may change with each item. Notice how each item feels against your skin and against one another. Notice any sounds that the materials make as you put them on and they come in contact with another material. Notice the difference in air temperature with each item as you continue to dress. Continue to fully experience and paying attention to the process of dressing.
